Day 13 back on the horse

The last 5 days we have had a bit of a blip, not eating was beginning to make us depressed and we just couldnt hold on to our sanity any longer so we decided to have a healthy meal at the end of each day, it worked but its not really a full juice diet if your eating even if your eating healthy food.

Day 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 found us having two juice meals a day and one healthy solid meal a day.

but its time to get back on the horse

for the next 7 days 13 to 20 will see us back to three juice meals a day

I shall document as much of that week as I can, I know its going to be hell again.

The problem really is society, it shoves food in your face all the time, if its not facebook and twitter friends talking about chinese, indian, pizza, BBQs ect its TV adverts gobbing off about food every bloody 15mins, and then theres the kids who are off on summer holiday, asking for food, eating food, wanting ice creams OMFG

This is the problem, add will power and a touch of brain screaming food at you and its bound to be tough.

Onwards and upwards

Good luck all you peoples undertaking a 60 day juice reboot yourselves

Day 11 & 12

Nothing really new to report hence why I haven't blogged in a few days, the juicing is still going strong and we are still struggling with it just as hard although I will say that its far easier to juice in the day than it is in the evening. In the evening we would normally sit down and eat chocolates, crips, sweets, spicy snacks ect and those cravings are still there.

My weight seems to have levelled out, not sure why at this time but I think it has to do with the continual constipation, carry around several of waste maybe?

Sorry guys probably not the kind of thing you are gagging to read about but if your planning on doing a juice reboot you need to know what goes on. Im not going to lie, its one of the hardest things ive ever done in my life.

Our next weighing will be day 30, we want to show an impact so stay tuned

Days 9 & 10

These two days have been pretty much the same really, apart from a trip to Trago Mills which was eventful because there is a whole wealth of takeaway foods to entice you into eating badly.

We took a juice lunch with us so that we couldn't be tempted.

Juice seems to keep very well in the fridge for 24hrs and has no loss of taste. Cold juice is by far better than lukewarm room temperature juice so if you can make it up and refrigerate it for a few hours i would highly recommend this. If you prefer your juice straight out the juicer then go for adding some crushed ice as this helps to cool it down.

Mentally Im still struggling so nothing new there really and my weight loss has plateaued im not entirely sure why but I think it has to do with the severe constipation.

Day 8 citrus fruits

Its day 8 of eating juice and we are having a few issues aside from the mental battle that seems to be relentless at the moment.

Firstly, citrus fruits are becoming unbearable. Every juice we have had has had some form of citrus fruits in it, lime, lemon, grapefruit, oranges and for breakfast this morning it was no different except that it was very hard to swallow. For some reason we have gone off citrus, so we are cutting it out from the recipes for the time being.

We had a beautiful banana and strawberry smoothie for lunch it was very tasty indeed and had a tickle of juiced apples in it too.

The next issue is, I haven't taken a shit for days now, like 5 days!!!!! *edited: it won't be 6 days constipated* ahhhhhhhhhhh

I do not know why this is but im putting it down to the fact we are not consuming much that the body needs to waste.

On the flip side im pissing like a co-op donkey

Day 7 total weight loss so far

Day 7 and had a horrific breakfast, unless you absolutely love grapefruit I would not recommend putting a whole one in a juice, it is overpowering and disgusting and tastes like vomit.

For dinner we have prepared cabbage, carrot apples and pears fruit juice reboot oh yummy it's time to eat after I finish writing this.

So its day 7 time to weight, after a week on this diet fingers crossed we have lost a good amount of weight.

Sammy was 267 and lost 9lb and is now 258lbs
Lee was 279 and lost 15lbs and is now 264lbs

Week 1 Total weight loss
Lee 15lbs
Sammy 9lbs

Happy days

Day 6 happy days

Sorry about the lack of posting but I have had such a great day today I have been out all day.

4 juices consumed and water.

After a hellish day 5 I am happy to report that those feelings of doom do not seem to carry over so I woke up feeling okay, had a fruit juice breakfast and was feeling optimistic. I still had the "I want a takeaway" thoughts but they did not make my life hell.

Sammy however had a normal happy day 5 and a very bad day 6, whist I was buzzing her day 6 was my day 5 if that makes sense.

Tomorrow morning is weights and measurements, I wonder how much we have lost in a week? So excited to see if the hard work has paid off, I know it has but I want to see it in real terms.

Tomorrow is also the first day we are going to be away from home and our juicer for probably 8 to 10hrs, this means we have some preparation to do to make enough juice to last the day while we are away.

I will let you know the results tomorrow so stay tuned

Day 5 Evening Meal its all going to be ok

Tonight's recipe was vegetables with a splash of fruit for good measure. So here is our summer greens recipe

1 x cabbage
6 x Large runner beans
6 x carrots
1 x lime
2 x nectarines
Slice of water melon
Half a pineapple
2 x Green Apples
3 x pears

This was enough to make almost 2ltrs of juice.

One thing I was unsure of was the thickness of juice. When you home juice, the machine extracts the juice and dumps the fibrous material out as waste, however the juice will not be anything like as clear or refined as you get from a carton or a juice shop, this is because a small amount of fibrous material still gets through into the juice. If you want super clear juice you can ether let the liquid settle and scoop the fibre off the top, or refine the juice through a filter, the problem with refining your juice is that it will get super expensive, you will get far less juice from each piece of fruit or vegetable so its more time consuming and you will lose fibre, a necessary nutrient if your planning on taking a poo.

Thanks to the support of my wife Sammy, my daughter Abby and some good friends on Facebook, I managed to get through today and feel more positive than earlier when I posted. Its good to know you do get our ups as well as your downs.

Day 5 Doom and Gloom

This is seriously tough, and I know it sounds like im whining but believe me I have come very close today to thinking sod this, Id rather be fat!

I guess I have to document this doom and gloom stuff so when YOU undertake a juice reboot and your getting down at least you know your not alone, its normal, its horrible, you just want to eat....

Day 5 breakfast at Sammys

I've lost a significant amount of weight so far but you will just have to wait and see for Sundays day 7 weighing for the result.

Its day 5 had a hearty breakfast of fruit melody which Sammy concocted which was very tasty. The muscle cramps have kicked in and I cannot work out if its illness related or diet related because, according to leading juicers, you do suffer with leg pains and muscle cramps within the first week to ten days of a juice reboot.

Here is a screen shot of Sammys thoughts for today

Day 4 thoughts and things

I woke up today with loads of energy and after a hearty fruit juice breakfast and lunch i found myself wanting to exercise, so off I went with two little ones in toll for a mooch about town.

I walked around for what seemed like about two hours and then found my illness kicking in, you see I have Myalgic Encephalitis or M.E for short and its a debilitating illness which normally leaves me so fatigued i cannot leave the house for much more than shopping.

Juicing seems to have increased my energy levels enough for me to walk around town for quite a while.

Anyways, I was getting fatigued and thought of going home and on the way back to the car bought my youngest a McDonalds, and I had a bottle of water, go me!!!!!

Nearly at the car and I was walking through the food court on the 2nd floor of Drake Circus and there low and behold is a juice bar, so off I went and for £3.15 had me a lovely Apple Blush, mixture of apples and strawberries. They do lots of different recipes so check it out you lovely janners.

Here is some techy info of fruit.

Day 4 lunch with Sammy

Day 4 lunch time with our own recipe called Lime Regis....2 limes, 1&1/2 pineapple, 1 marrow, 3 carrots and 2 apples enough to make 3 full pints of juice

Feeling good today, off for some sunshine in a little while

Enjoy
Sammy drinking her Lime Regis

Day 4 What is a healthy balanced diet?

The best way to consider what is good for you to eat in your diet is by using a food triangle. The food triangle shows how you should proportion food.

As you can see at the  bottom of the triangle is our life source water, without water you die very quickly. The body should consume about 3ltrs for men and 2.2ltrs for women of water, some of this water you get from the food you eat and that is why you will here the recommended intake of water to be at least 8 glasses of water which equates to just under 2ltrs if you use 8oz glasses. Please remember that although these are recommended amounts, intake will vary from person to person and environment issues as well as work related issues. A woman working on a building site on a hot summers day would need to increase her water intake exponentially.

The next couple of levels of the pyramid are the foods you can consume all the time, as much as you want, when you want. Fruits and vegetables will fill the stomach quicker than other foods of calorific value, meaning you will eat less calories and feel fuller quicker than you will if you ate lean meat for example.

The danger of the pyramid however is it only deals with whole food groups, there is no section dealing with processed food such as ready meals. The best place for a ready meal is either left on the supermarket shelf, or in the bin. In reality though we eat so much of them because they are quick and easy to make, marketed in some cases as healthy choice, cheap and tasty.

I would place all processed food; thats tinned food, processed meat like spam and cornbeef, frozen meals, ready meals, pizza, burgers, sausages ect into the very top of the triangle, eat these only rarely.
If your serious about getting healthy and loosing weight then you want to be eating fresh and eating as per the recommendations of this triangle.

Day 3

A hell of a tough day if I do say so myself, my craving exploded exponentially but I never gave in.

Bought some love herbal tea made by Twinings its £2 a box of 20 but they taste so good. I have an orange infused tea, and Sammy has the liquorice infused tea.

My breath is so bad, it smells like rotten veg, i heard it was a side effect of juicing. Today me and Sammy went shopping and grabbed £48 worth of fruit and veg for the juicer, I'm thinking that it will probably last us at least 3 days so thats 18 pints of juice, not bad really as it works out about £2.67 a meal, certainly cheaper than McDonalds :-)

Tonight's tea will be a medley of pears, with carrots, courgettes, and probably some pineapple or limes.

Looking forward to the final of Apprentice tonight BBC1 8pm and I shall sip my juice while watching it.

Only 57 days to go, yippee

A small selection of what we bought today

Day 3 Breakfast

After a horrendous evening of craving I woke up this morning feeling a little bit more refreshed than usual and a little more positive especially for a sick and unhealthy man, normally I wake up feeling like a freight trains been through my head and I have ran a marathon.

So after a tidy up we got straight down to breakfast juicing frenzy, and here is what we had......

1 whole pineapple, 3 Granny Smiths, 5 nectarines, half a lemon, and a pear. Enough juice for three of us, and here is a photo of Sammy enjoying her juice.

Day 2 night time cravings

Normally at this time of night I would be eating plenty of snacks....

Tonight I drinking water only and it does not help the cravings when everywhere you look online you see stuff like this

Day 2 All I can smell is food

Its been 48hrs since I last ate what most people would consider normal food. I ate burgers with coleslaw and pitta, I had a hard job to think then what it was. Day 1 was only fruit, vegetables and water and now Day 2 it was part solid fruit and vegetable and form lunchtime it has only been juice and water.

I never realised how hard my mind was going to fight me on this. Okay, fair enough its only day 2 and yes if I was doing and 3, 5 or 7 day fast then I could probably deal with it but I am not. I'm doing a massive 60 day juice fast to reboot my health, loose weight and get fit from the inside out. With 58 more days to go you can now imagine why my minds doing somersaults.

I smell food everywhere, in the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom and especially outside where everyone seems to be having BBQs even though I know they are not,  I CAN SMELL THEM.

but

I'm far from a broken man. I have my wife and eldest daughter along for the ride and they are equally suffering. Sammy has no energy at all and Abby just talks about food non stop as she feels so hungry.

The worst part of it all was hearing and smelling our youngest children's food being cooked and eaten.

Still I think it's about time for another tumbler of juice before settling down to big brother, did you see last nights explosive episode?

Detox Phase Day One

Today has been a very interesting day. I thought that I would be suffering withdrawals from loss of myfavourite  foods, especially crisps, curry and diet coke; but fingers crossed this has not been the case for me today.

My food consumption has been as follows:
1 x Banana and herbal tea for breakfast
1 x Golden delicious apple and herbal tea for lunch
A mixed salad of quarter of lettuce, half a carrot, half a red pepper, 5 slices of cucumber, 1 x corncob, whole beetroot and a thick slice of pineapple for my evening meal of which I ate most of it.

Im now sitting here writing this with a herbal tea with extra lemon juice freshly squeezed and I have to say that I never realised how filling raw vegetables are. Normally I would consume a mountain of curry or Chinese takeaway and still feel hungry afterwards, but this dinner tonight was incredibly filling.

I can still feel in my stomach a kind of empty dull throb and I think this has to do with my mind. I think my mind is putting the feelings there to force me to get up and consume some chocolate or other processed food it craves. I think that if I did that the pain will go away but I will not damn you mind!

I control you, not you control me, got it?

This was my evening meal

So full of colour and life and energy of the earth and sun.

WHERE IS MY JUICER?

Launch Date today is the day, detox phase day 1

Today begins our journey, 60 days of nothing but the Juice of fruit and vegetables and water, but before we get to our 60 day juice Fest we need one important thing, our juicer. However, this is the detox phase, until our juicer arrives we shall be eating our fruits and vegetables to get our minds ready for the liquid juice reboot.

So far today I have had a banana and a cup of tea no milk, no sugar.

The good news I bring is the fact that my Wife, Sammy has decided to go public about the diet also. This blog was to chart my journey but now it shall chart both our journeys.

Lee's Weight and Goals

Okay, now you have some idea of what I am about to undertake its important for me to document my progress somehow and I guess the only real way to do this is to take some scientific measurements.

Well I am not going to the lab to do this as that would be ridiculous so armed with a brand new set of scales, a BMI calculator and progress chart app for the iPad, and a tape measure I shall set forth the record of what I weigh and measure today Sunday 14th July 2013.

This will give me and you some indication of how the 60 day Juice Reboot programme is effecting me in a physiological way.

So here goes
Age 39
Weight 279 pounds
BMI 36.68
Waist 45"
Belly 47"
Hips 47"
Thigh 25"
Bicep 16"

Verdict obese class I I severely obese.

I guess with all that negativity I need to inject some positivity into the mix, here are my goals

Age 39
Weight 189 pounds ( a whopping 90 pound loss, 6stones)
BMI 24.85 ( healthy BMI is recommended between 18.50 and 25.00)
Waist 32"
Belly 32"
Hips 34"
Thigh 20"
Bicep 12"

Verdict normal, health, fit yippee

Juice Reboot pre detox

So I found out today from the nutritionist that before undertaking a Juice Reboot of the proportions that I am undertaking, namely a 60 day programme it is necessary to prepare the body for a few days prior.

This is good news in a way because the juicer is not here yet.

How do we prepare for Juice Fest?

Well basically we consume everything we are going to consume in a Juice Reboot except that we do this in solid form.

So for the next few days until the Juicer arrives, I shall be starting the launch date 15th July 2013 with a stable diet of only fresh fruits, fresh vegetable, water and tea. This will detox my body from the cravings of processed foods, refined sugar, chocolate, crisps, sweets and all the other things i desire to eat which has made me fat.

By the time I start the Juice Reboot, Juice Fest for Thin Ness hopefully my mind will have started to calm down, which is a good thing.

Over the coming weeks, apart from my daily ramblings about the Juice Fest I am also going to be talking about related topics such as:-

Why do we crave processed foods
Benefits of fruits and vegetables
Going back to caveman diets, how did we cope before processed foods
How can we in operate exercise into our life style
Myths about fat, weight and fitness

This will hopefully be of some benefit to anyone else undertaking or thinking about undertaking a Juice Reboot, or maybe just for those of you who want to change the way you think about food and your health.

I am please to report that my family are also getting involved with the Juice Fest in some form or another, including my wife, who is attempting the 60 day Juice Fest for Thin Ness along side me. What awesome support and family i have and what better way to keep me motivated over the coming weeks.

Big Thanks Guys.

Enough said!

I'm Sick, what the hell is wrong with me

So one of the reasons I'm doing this 60 day juice reboot, Juice Fest for Thin Ness, is because I am sick. I am pretty poorly actually. Im currently employed by the railway as an engineer and a few months ago now I was rushed into hospital with fluid on my lungs.

After several tests my breathing was under control but I was still very poorly, viral infection was the diagnosis. I have been signed off work as my condition is just getting worse and I'm having all sorts of tests which seem to be clear good news eh? No. My GP thinks I have myalgic encephalomyelitis.

This illness causes extreme fatigue, irritable bowl, sweats, muscle pain, shakes, vertigo, light sensitivity, noise sensitivity to name a few. Oh and I snore like a rhino.

Currently I am taking anti sickness pills, co-codamol pain relief, acid medication and anti depressants. My job involves a safety critical element and so I am having a serious think about my employment status.

I am a self employed artists as well, my art is suffering and I can just about paint for therapy let alone for anything else.

This juice reboot will help cleanse my system, right some wrongs within my body, help to self heal. With a bit of luck I shall see some very real benefits to this diet soon.

What no juicer

My juicer did not turn up today grrrr, that means I am going to have to put back my start day.

As you can imagine I am not too impressed

I weighed last night T minus 2 days

So guess what?

I'm fat, fatter than fat, oh my god I'm obese, very obese, seriously at risk obese.

But that's cool because in a few days time I'm starting a journey to get thin, healthy and fit.

So the results of the weighing will be posted later but here's how I got there. Lets take a typical Saturday, seen as it is Saturday today, and believe me what I eat does not really change much from day to day although some days I will eat less than others but this is me on a bad eating day

Typical food consumption in a rough order
Breakfast
Cup of tea no sugar, milky.
Two slices of toast with peanut butter.
Cup of tea no sugar, milky.
Maybe. One more slice of toast with peanut butter cause the last two were soooo nice.
Mid Morning Snack
Diet Coke.
Diet Coke
Half a packet of biscuits and a packet of crisps
Lunch
Large Pasty
Cream cake
Diet Coke
Cup of tea no sugar, milky
Mid Afternoon Snack
Diet Coke
Four packets of crisps
Twix
Two more packets of crisps I lied about only four.
Ice cream
Cup of tea no sugar, milky
Evening Meal
Diet Coke
Madras Curry, Pillaw Rice, Naan Bread, Six Onion Bahjis, Eight Popadums
Diet Coke
Night time TV snack
Eight to Twelve packets of crisps
Twix
Two to Four Rocky Bars
Packet of Starbursts
Cup of tea no sugar, milky.

Now you can see why I'm in such a shit state. Well thats going to change in a few days time all i will be having is fresh fruits and vegetables and it will look like this

I'm not pulling punches..... T minus 3 days

So I am sat here creating this blog and I am actually shitting myself. The closer it gets to my start date the more I am thinking geez I hope I can do this! I hope I don't let myself down?

When am I starting, well that depends on this....

This is the Andrew James 990 Watts of Juicing Mania.

For whole fruits and vegetables- No need to peel

Effectively separates the juice from the pulp

Up to 30% more juice than normal juicers

Yeah well we will see wont we!

and it also depends on this

No Not Peter Mandelson, but Royal Mail, soon as they turn up with my Juicer the very next day will be my start day.

Posty says its going to be Monday 15th July 2013, so that is my official start day, fingers crossed old Juey turns up before then after all its only 3 days away

What is Juice Fest for Thin Ness

Well this is my spin on a serious quest to shed the pounds, get fit and get healthy. For 60 days I am doing what seems the impossible but I know its not, I watched two people do it, the other day, on TV!!!

Juice Fest is basically a juice diet, pure juice, only juice, no food, no caffeine, no alcohol, no chocolate no nothing, just squeezed fruit and vegetables, through a juicer into a mug, yum yum.

for

Thin Ness is literally that, I seriously need to lose weight, shed pounds, shrink my belly, get thinner.

I watched a TV programme the other day called "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" a Joe Cross film. It was on Channel 5 10th July 2013 and if you click the link you can view what im raging about.

The film follows Joe on a journey to lose weight, get well and live longer and he does this by Juicing. Juicing is basically consuming nothing but the juice from fresh fruits and vegetables, water and the odd cup of herbal tea. There are names for this diet such as Juice Diet, Rebooting and Juice Reboot to name a few.

There are a number of websites out there that promote this way to diet, and they make all sorts of claims and such none which I can give any advice on as yet because im new to this myself.

My plan is to follow the inspiration from Joe Cross, watching his film and the journey, he and the Arizona Truck Driver he met on the way went through, got me thinking about my own life and my own health. Im also sick and im fat and im probably nearly dead too, but we will get to that all in good time.

For now know this, this is my diary, the diary of Lee Webb, an Artist from Devon, UK, who needs to change his ways. This is my diary, its going to document my journey through the 60 day Juice Reboot. Its going to document the build up, my thoughts, my feelings, my trials and tribulations and along the way I hope to provide inspiration and hope to others who feel like shit.

So sign up, follow me and share this journey with me, every step of the way.
